Mr. Internet
There was no internet connection in our office today for about 2 hours. We felt so miserable, so handless. We were lost without an internet, like Peter Griffin without TV in that episode of Family Guy.
That made me wonder how did people live before internet or mobile phones were created? They spent more time with their real friends, not on-line ones, visited each other more often, because they couldn’t skype or call, surprised each other more often, cause there was no way to track anyone with gps or something, did more sports, drank more alcohol, read, danced…etc
I remember I was about 15 or something when I first experienced the internet, with dial-up connection that was always breaking and my angry mom, whose friends couldn’t reach her via home phone. That made me buy internet cards, only usable during the night, they were cheaper and no one from my family yelled because the phone was always busy. Those were romantic times of chats and icq, forums and first music downloading, which could fail 1000 times because of the connection.
Time goes by and now people are selling their products and services via internet, some of them are making billions of $ everyday. We buried dial-up modems and can’t live without internet now. I admit it, I thought, I don’t have any addiction, but I do. I am officially addicted to Mr. internet. I wouldn’t have my job now if the internet didn’t exist. I wouldn’t have a place to crush during my travels if there were no internet, I wouldn’t have many-many things if there were no internet. But now, while I am spending most of my working day in social networks like twitter, facebook, vkontakte etc…, I started to appreciate time spent without a computer and internet connection. I am enjoying playing piano and studying foreign languages, meeting friends having life chats, shopping and walking with my dog in the park, cooking….. But… wait a minute, where do I get a recipe from…..Oh, here you are Mr. Internet, welcome back, we missed you!
